Manufacturing of support plate for Xtrac six speed gearbox in Pagani Zonda

Pagani Zonda's V12 engine sits right behind the driver, separated by firewall from the cockpit. Engine is connected to Xtrac gearbox. In order to strengthen rear frame of the car, both gearbox and engine have to be firmly attached to the frame of the car. Since there are no side supports on Xtrac gearbox, support plate had to be designed and manufactured.

The support plate splits gearbox from differential casings and has very precise edges, that have to create perfect seal, since gearbox oil flows freely between both bodies. The part was designed in Solidworks and toolpaths were programmed in HSMWorks. Total machining time was 4:20 hours and 15 milling and drilling tools were used. Material: forged aluminum alloy EN AW 7022.
